Riverbend Unplugged
Responding to the local arts community and Chattanoogans who remember the earliest days of Riverbend, Friends of the Festival is expanding last year's successful, experimental foray into the world of "edu-tainment". Invoking the spirit of the arts-based "Spoleto" of Charleston or the educational environment that permeates the Bluegrass/Folk/Americana gathering known as "Merlefest" in Wilkesboro, N.C., "The 'Bend Unplugged" is an overdue addition for visiting musicians wanting to spread the history of their musical style as well as their passion for it. And it increases the level of active involvement by local educational institutions that have also just happened to become tourist destinations themselves.
From two in 2009...there are now five "unplugged" shows, all of which guarantee fans an intimate show, complete with audience interaction and Q&A opportunities. The shows are indoors, air conditioned, and originally designed with folks in mind who love the music...but NOT the crowds that often come with popular acts on our sprawling waterfront. In short, we're taking the festival out of it's boundaries and into the community.
